Unit 12: Differences between L1 and L2 learning

This unit was helpful and interesting as well as the rest of the units. This is because it taught us what is the difference between L1 and L2 learning; we distinguished some differences for example one of the principles we have that L1 we learn through exposure and then we pick it up, we don’t put too much attention to structure while learning the L2 we always need specific language items and we need to focus in structures so, it means we need a guide to learn a second language because it is new it is not our mother tongue. I will take into account all this strategies about teaching a second language when I am a teacher because they will help me a lot with my students, for example I will teach structures and also use exposure to make the second language learning acquisition easier and enjoyable.

  1. I agree with you when you say that exposure is important when the learners are picking the language up because they need to be sorrounded by the language and culture

  2. I agree with you partner because English language as L2 need to have a good environment where students are acquiring their new language and we need to use good an useful taks for them

  3. good point dear Erika, L1 is learn through exposure because when we are babies we do not have a teacher or classmates to lear the grammatical rules of a language.

  4. Most people think that the learning process of L1 is similar to L2. It is really necessary to establish differences in order to avoid confusion or mix the mother tongue and the target language. Very nice point of view.
